I am looking forward to this winter; to the air, as clear as a single, perfect note, the oblique embrace of the sun, and to the warmth of home, windows fogged with laughter and conversation, and the tidal rhythm of silent breath.
I am older, and the chill slips in deeper than ever, hints of long rest under the blanket of time. It nudges out passion, fills the space with contemplation. It leaves no room for nostalgia; just the constant grace of the moment, each individual and miraculous, like snowflakes.
This winter, collect seeds and bulbs. Choose them with care, and when the soil unfreezes, plant them lovingly, knowing that spring will be for new life; another divine exhalation.

Experiments with High Dynamic Range photography.

I am a huge fan of Steve McCurry’s work, as well as the work of Eric Laffourge. While much of their photography is of an ethnographic nature, they have incorporated extraordinary artistry that highlights the unique qualities and beauty of their subjects.
There is a very nice online exhibit of early 20th century ethnographic photography featuring 28 phots by the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Sheriff Curtis, and others. Check it out here.
